Terms of Service

These terms apply when you book or play any experience offered by The Gr8 Escape ("we", "us", "our"). By making a booking, paying a deposit, or entering one of our rooms you agree to be bound by them. Please read carefully — these terms include limitations on our liability and conditions about safety, payment and cancellations.

1. About us

The Gr8 Escape operates from Pineslopes Office Park, Block C, First Floor, Corner Forest Road & The Straight, Fourways, Johannesburg. You can contact us at info@thegr8escape.co.za or 076 362 0765.

2. Bookings

• Each escape room is booked privately for your group only.
• Group sizes are 2 to 7 players. Every booking is charged for a minimum of 2 tickets, regardless of how many people actually attend.
• You must arrive at least 15 minutes before your scheduled start. Late arrivals may have their game time shortened so the next group can start on time.
• Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult inside the room.
• Walk-ins are subject to availability. To guarantee a slot, please book in advance.

3. Pricing & payment

• Escape rooms are R320.00 per person.
• To secure your slot, you pay a deposit of R640.00 online (the cost of 2 tickets).
• The remaining balance, if any, is settled on arrival in cash or by card.
• Murder-mystery experiences and add-ons are paid in full at the time of booking.
• Payments are processed by PayFast. Your card details never reach our servers.
• All prices are in South African Rand (ZAR) and include VAT where applicable.

4. Cancellations & refunds

• Cancel or reschedule with at least 24 hours' notice and your full deposit (R640.00) is refunded.
• Cancellations made less than 24 hours before your booking are non-refundable, but we will do our best to find another slot for you.
• No-shows forfeit the deposit.
• If we have to cancel your booking (for example because of equipment failure or load-shedding affecting the room), you will receive a full refund or be offered another time at no extra cost.
• Refunds are paid back to the original payment method and reflect within 5 to 7 business days.

5. Safety & conduct

• Every room has an emergency door that is unlocked at all times — you can leave whenever you want.
• Mobile phones, cameras and any recording devices must be stored in the lockers provided. Photography is allowed only in the lobby and after the game.
• Do not bring food, drink (other than bottled water), pets, weapons, or anything illegal into the rooms.
• Players who are visibly under the influence of alcohol or drugs may be refused entry without a refund.
• Treat the room and its props with care. You may be liable for damage caused by negligent or deliberate misuse.
• If you have any medical condition (including pregnancy, claustrophobia, photosensitive epilepsy, heart conditions or anxiety) that may be affected by the experience, please tell us before booking so we can advise.
• Our staff may end a session at any time if they believe a player's safety is at risk.

6. Filming & CCTV

Each room is monitored by CCTV so the games master can give you hints and intervene in an emergency. The footage is used only for safety, training and quality monitoring, and is retained in line with our privacy policy.

7. Liability

Our experiences are designed to be safe and to require brain power, not physical exertion. By participating you agree that:

• You participate at your own risk and are responsible for your own physical and mental wellbeing during the game.
• To the maximum extent permitted by South African law, our total liability to you for any claim arising out of a booking is limited to the amount you paid for that booking.
• We are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, or for losses caused by events outside our reasonable control (load-shedding, civil unrest, natural disasters, public-health restrictions, and similar).
• Nothing in these terms limits any liability that cannot be excluded under the Consumer Protection Act, 2008 or any other South African law.

8. Intellectual property

All puzzles, props, room designs, branding, photography and written content are owned by or licensed to The Gr8 Escape. You may not copy, photograph, record, livestream or re-publish any aspect of the experience without our written permission.

9. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. The version that applies to your booking is the one published on this page when you completed the booking.

10. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of South Africa. Any dispute will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the South African courts.
